Dear fellow Singapore alumni;
In terms of numbers, University of Manchester has more than 4,000 alumni in Singapore alone. In the Asia-Pacific region, we are close to 50,000. If we extend that globally, we are over 300,000 in every corner of the world. Locally, we have many senior Manchester alumni have also achieved great success in their professional careers which I believe is a valuable network for our alumni to tap upon, to meet, to interact and to learn from. Therefore, the real value of our education is not just an academic certification, but the entire network that is associated with the word "Manchester".
Regardless if you studied in Manchester or through distance-learning, we all have great memories of our student days and university life will always hold a special place within us. When I look back to my days in Manchester, the University has definitely helped to shape my personal and professional development. Therefore, when the calling came upon the recent election to take over as President of the alumni association, I’ve decided it is time for me to step up to serve and contribute back to the University.
The objective for the Alumni Association is simple – We aim to bring Manchester Alumni network together locally and regionally. Where our alumni can find similar interest group focus alumni, to make new friends and interact, be it for social, professional or business interests. For those who have been to our events, you will know that we regularly organize social get together, business networking opportunities, various social and sporting events for our Alumni. Regionally, we are starting to link up various Chapters together via the “Connect Asia” initiative launched by the University Alumni office.
These are exciting times. With the new committee team appointed for the next two years, I hope that we can work together to create a vibrant Manchester alumni community and promoting our University of Manchester brand name in Singapore. The committee team will seek to establish collaborations with other alumni associations, agencies and merchants for broad range of activities and events catering to our diverse group of alumni interests.
As the new President of the University of Manchester Alumni Association Singapore, I look forward to your full support and active participation with the alumni association and also more alumni volunteers to contribute actively to the association.
